List the gingival fibre groups and the functions they perform.
Do the same for the periodontal ligament fibres.

    Transseptal -relationship of adjacent teeth and protect interprox bone
    Transgingival - secure alignment of teeth in arch
    Interpapillary -support for interdental papilla
    Intercircular - stabilize teeth
    Intergingival -support and contour of attached gingival

    Alveolar crest – oppose lateral forces
    Oblique – oppose laterally directed forces
    Horizontal – oppose lateral forces
    Interradicular – prevent tooth tipping
    Apical – protect nerve and vessel supply to the tooth
